Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski and his wife, Anna, have donated €1 million to help combat the coronavirus outbreak.

"We are all aware of the difficult situation. Today we all play in a team. Let us be strong in this fight. If we can help someone, let's do it," the Lewandowskis told Bild, per BBC Sport.

The Bundesliga's current goal-scoring leader became the latest footballer to pledge money after fellow Bayern stars Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich announced the #WeKickCorona initiative, each donating €1 million to the cause

"This situation affects every one of us, so we ask you to follow the instructions and listen to those who know best. Be responsible," Lewandowski added.

We Kick Corona has raised more than €2.5 million to date. Charities and social institutions are invited to apply for funds on the official website.

"Only if we stand together now, show reason and responsibility and are there for each other can we make it out of this crisis," Kimmich said after launching the charitable endowment.

As of Friday evening, Germany had 22,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 83 deaths.
