Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed that the club suspended Jadon Sancho for one match.

"Jadon is a great kid, but he is still very young," Zorc told reporters. "The decision was not easy, but there was no other choice. The suspension is only active for today."

It's understood the decision to suspend Sancho was made after the winger reportedly returned late from international duty with England, according to DW Sports.

The 19-year-old was unavailable for Dortmund's crucial encounter with Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday as a result of the ban.

Sancho, who scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists last season, is enjoying yet another impressive campaign in Germany, notching three goals and five assists in seven Bundesliga appearances.

The decision to suspend Sancho comes as Dortmund is attempting to rebound from a lackluster start to the season against a Gladbach side that sits atop the Bundesliga table.

Monchengladbach lead the league with 16 points through seven matches, while Dortmund sit in ninth with 12 points.
