London - Austrian international Kevin Danso has signed for English Premier League side Southampton on loan from Bundesliga outfit Augsburg.

The 20-year-old central defender -- capped six times -- has received international clearance for the move with Saints sealing the loan deal before Thursday's transfer window shut.

Danso -- who will not play in their opening match this weekend against Burnley -- knows England well after his Ghanaian parents moved there when he was six.

He came through the MK Dons Academy before moving to Augsburg in 2014 making his senior debut in 2017.

"I'm looking forward to working with such a great coach in Ralph Hasenhüttl," he said.

"He has produced a lot of young players and showed a huge amount of belief in them, so I hope I can be another one who can benefit from him."

Hasenhüttl, who replaced Mark Hughes last December and saved Southampton from relegation, said Danso fitted the bill perfectly for the team he is building.

"I am very pleased we have been able to bring Kevin into the club," said the 52-year-old Austrian.

"He fits the profile of player that we want to bring here to Southampton.

"He is in the early part of his career, but he has good experience already, with a lot of existing qualities and the potential to develop even further."
