Pochettino would've considered leaving if Tottenham won Champions League

Mauricio Pochettino says he would've considered vacating his position as Tottenham manager if his team emerged victorious from the Champions League final.

"Maybe if it was a different result after the final, you can think, 'OK, maybe this is a moment to step out of the club, leave the club and give them the possibility of a really new chapter with a new coach staff,'" the Argentine told reporters, including The Telegraph's James Ducker. "But after the final, I felt this was not great to finish like this."

Despite a positive performance, Tottenham lost 2-0 to Liverpool, ending their hopes of a first European Cup. The defeat left Pochettino with no other choice but to try again.

"I'm not a person that avoids facing problems or a difficult situation," he added. "I love a massive challenge, a difficult challenge, and of course now to rebuild that mentality to make it possible to repeat a similar season, that is exciting and motivates me a lot."

Life for Spurs is different than it was 12 months ago when construction on the club's new stadium was still underway and transfer funds were nonexistent. Tottenham now enter the season with a new home, and a new signing in Tanguy Ndombele, who joined the team from Lyon for a reported £55-million fee.

"Now it is going to take time to move on because now it's not the excuse of the new stadium," Pochettino said. "It's a thing that of course is going to be different to the last few years."
