The BC Lions announced Friday that general manager Ed Hervey is stepping down from his position for personal reasons.

"While the CFL is not playing this year and our roster is currently set, head coach Rick Campbell and director, football operations Neil McEvoy will work together with the Lions scouting staff to ensure continuity in football operations," team president Rick LeLacheur said in a statement.

Hervey joined the Lions in December 2017 as GM after a career with the Edmonton Football Team as both a player and a personnel executive.

He became Edmonton's GM in 2012 after previously working as a scout. He led the team to a Grey Cup victory in 2015 before joining BC two years later.

A 1995 fifth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys, Hervey also won the Grey Cup in 2003 and 2005 as a player. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2001 and 2003.

The Lions qualified for the playoffs after a 9-9 finish in 2018 but struggled to a 5-13 record the following year.
