Napoli's in-form Lorenzo Insigne has withdrawn from Italy's squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Norway with a pre-existing knee injury.

AC Milan midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura replaces Insigne in the lineup.

The 24-year-old Insigne, who has five goals and three assists in his first seven Serie A matches this season, didn't participate in training with the Azzurri on Tuesday. He is still feeling pain as a result of an injury to his right knee, which he picked up during a 4-0 thrashing of Milan this past weekend.

Insigne spent the majority of last season while recovering from surgery on the same knee, inevitably causing concern.

The severity is not yet known. Napoli's medical team will carry out further tests.

In his place comes Bonaventura, who has impressed with two goals and three assists with Milan so far.
