AC Milan tells Mario Balotelli he's overweight

Mario Balotelli's stunning goal in his first game back at AC Milan didn't hide the fact that he needs to shed a few pounds.

The Italian striker wasted no time in making his presence known to begin his second stint at AC Milan during the team's friendly against fourth division side Modena.

But manager Sinisa Mihajlovic didn't pull any punches when talking about Balotelli's fitness, saying the striker is overweight following his disappointing time with Liverpool, where a majority of the striker's time was spent on the sidelines.

"He's not played for a while and he still has to improve," Mihajlovic told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"He's training well and his physical tests are satisfactory, but he's three kilogrammes overweight: he's on a diet and when he's ready he will play."

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani, however, provided an upbeat assessment of Balotelli - who joined the Serie side on a season-long loan.

"His fitness is improving, physically he's in a good place and he can do what he wants when he has the ball. Let's hope his goal augurs well for the rest of the season," said Galliani.

"When I see goals like that I get excited."

Whether Balotelli gets a shot to participate in Milan's crucial meeting with city rivals Inter Milan on Sept. 13 remains to be seen.
