Juventus equals clean-sheet record as club celebrates Scudetto

Juventus equalled a club and Serie A record for the most clean sheets in a single season, hammering Sampdoria 5-0 on Saturday to close out the campaign with 22 shutouts.

Juventus conceded just 20 goals in 38 games - fewer than any other team in Serie A - as it reached a benchmark shared by AC Milan's 1993-94 side. The Bianconeri also matched the record in 2013-14.

Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli, and Leonardo Bonucci played a massive part on the defensive end all season, but on this day, they even managed to contribute on the other side of the pitch.

Three defenders scored in the rout, with Patrice Evra, Chiellini, and Bonucci all collecting goals. Chiellini in particular marked his 400th appearance for the Bianconeri in style, walloping a strike late in the second half.

Juventus had already wrapped up a fifth consecutive Scudetto in April, and although it lost to the already relegated Hellas Verona last weekend, the mood Saturday was drastically different.

Neither Juve nor Sampdoria had anything to contest - Sampdoria was at not risk of relegation - but the performance proved the gulf in class between the two sides.

Evra opened the scoring just five minutes into the match, and a red card to Milan Skriniar nine minutes later dashed any hope for the visitor.

Paulo Dybala also dazzled with his footwork, and scored twice to cap his first season in Turin with 23 goals in all competitions.

The festivities began following the final whistle, with each of the players presented in front of the supporters, who stayed in their seats to watch their champions lift a 32nd Serie A title.
