Rose withdraws from Bahamas with back injury

Michael Madrid-USA TODAY Sports

NASSAU, Bahamas - Tiger Woods will be playing alone Friday in the Hero World Challenge.

Justin Rose, the only player with a higher score in the opening round at Albany, withdrew Friday because of a nagging back issue. Rose did not play the pro-am Wednesday and then opened with a 74 in the first round. Rose, the Olympic gold medalist, has not played since the Ryder Cup, wanting to rest his back.

Woods has the option of playing with a marker, a player not in the competition. That occasionally happens at the majors. The PGA Tour said he would be playing as a solo, meaning the round likely would take him no more than about three hours.
