Brendan Steele uses dominant final round to win Safeway Open

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Brendan Steele fired a 7-under 65 on Sunday to win the Safeway Open, beating Patton Kizzire by one shot.

Steele finished 18-under, and the win is his second on the PGA Tour. He came back from four shots down and finished with three straight birdies.

Phil Mickelson finished tied for eighth at 14-under, while Mackenzie Hughes ended up tied for 13th in his PGA Tour debut, shooting a 13-under 275.

The win was revenge for Steele. He had the lead after 54 holes at the tournament last year before faltering in the final round, eventually losing out to champion Emiliano Grillo.

"This is a little bit of redemption from last year," Steele said. "It's nice to close it off this way."
