The Toronto Maple Leafs might still be Connor McDavid's favorite team.

The Edmonton Oilers forward put up two goals and three assists as the Oilers edged the Maple Leafs 5-2 Thursday.

The game marked the first for McDavid - who grew up just outside Toronto -against the team he cheered for as a kid. It also proved to be the first five-point game of the youngster's career.

The game could have included McDavid's first career hat trick too, but he generously passed up an empty-net shot in the final minute to set up linemate Jordan Eberle, who collected the first hat trick of his own career.

McDavid, Eberle, and Benoit Pouliot combined for 13 points on the night.

The performance saw McDavid jump from 16th in the rookie scoring race to ninth, tying him with Buffalo Sabres forward Sam Reinhart with 24 points in 33 fewer games.

With his brilliant five-point effort, McDavid now has nine goals and 23 points in 19 games this season.

The win moves the Oilers ahead of the Maple Leafs, leaving Toronto with 47 points and sole possession of last place in the NHL.
