Patrick Kane claims longest point streak ever by an American player
Patrick Kane has broken the record for the longest point streak ever by an American-born player, scoring at least one point in 19 consecutive games with a goal Saturday versus the Los Angeles Kings.
It came in typical "Showtime" fashion too, as Kane pounced on a dispossessed puck, hesitated to create space over Jonathan Quick's shoulder, and rifled it into the roof of the net.
The dynamic Chicago Blackhawks winger surpassed Eddie Olczyk and Phil Kessel - the pair he matched with a primary assist in the waning seconds Friday night in a dramatic overtime victory over the Anaheim Ducks - with Saturday's power-play marker.
His 19-game point streak is the longest of its kind since the 2010-11 season, and the second-longest in Blackhawks history. Kane remains two games shy of Bobby Hull's franchise-record 21-game scoring surge during the 1971-72 season.
The goal stands as Kane's 36th point this season - tops in the NHL.
Wayne Gretzky's 51-game point streak in 1983-84 stands as the NHL record.
