Sabres GM: Lehner's injury 'not short-term;' to have MRI on Saturday

Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray and head coach Dan Bylsma have confirmed the injury to goaltender Robin Lehner isn't minor.

Lehner will have an MRI on Saturday, Murray told Sportsnet 590 THE FAN on Friday.

"It's a longer-term thing," the GM said. "It's not a break, but it's a sprain, so we just have to get more information, but right now, it's not short-term."

Lehner left Thursday's loss to the Ottawa Senators - his Sabres regular-season debut and first game against his former team - with a lower-body injury.

Murray said the 24-year-old netminder got caught in a rut in the ice after scrambling to get back in his crease.

He was seen leaving the arena in a walking boot on his right foot.

“It doesn’t look like it’s short term,” Bylsma told reporters postgame Thursday. “It’s more than day to day at this point, but we need to evaluate further."
