Senators' Bobby Ryan buys RV; drives almost 2,500 miles back to Ottawa

Ottawa Senators forward Bobby Ryan took a rather unorthodox way of returning to the Canadian Capital.

Rather than electing to fly from his home in Idaho, Ryan and his wife Danielle decided to buy an RV and drive the nearly 2,500 miles back to Ottawa, arriving late Friday.

"We bought an RV this summer, a motor home, it was pretty used but we just thought it would be a cool way to see the country," Ryan told the Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch. "I've done it a few times in other vehicles to cross country.

"We camped out. We had some fun."

The trip took Bobby and Danielle five days. Ryan made stops along the way at various KOA campgrounds as well as taking time to skate with the Des Moines Buccaneers in Iowa and the Minnesota Wild's farm club on the journey to help stay in shape.

He even made a pit stop in the driveway of teammate Clarke MacArthur's home in Rochester, N.Y.

In all, Ryan admits the journey went very well, especially after figuring out how to hook up the RV's electricity and hyrdo.

"We had to Youtube how to hook it up the first night about 2 a.m. but a guy who was tired of the noise came out and showed us and helped us. It was a breeze the rest of the way," said Ryan. "It went really smoothly. We didn't expect it to go that well."
