Ilya Kovalchuk's KHL season is not off to a great start.

The all-world forward and former NHL star suffered a lower-body injury during Saturday's game against Torpedo, and will reportedly be out of the lineup for up to three months.

Kovalchuk has recorded a goal and an assist in the first three games of the season for SKA St. Petersburg.

He has two years remaining on his KHL contract, leading to rumblings earlier this year that he was eyeing a return to the NHL.

For now, he'll spend the next several weeks trying to get back on the ice.
