Sabres' Ennis: 'We're definitely moving in the right direction fast'

The Buffalo Sabres had a very active offseason and after two years of rebuilding, forward Tyler Ennis is happy to finally be seeing the light.

"It seemed like a really long two years, but in the grand scheme of things it could be pretty quick," Ennis told NHL.com's Derek Van Diest. "It might not be as long as you think, but those 160 games felt like 10 years. But there is still lots to improve on. It's not just going to happen on its own. We have to have guys commit to the areas we need to improve on. We're going to be better than last year but there is still a long way to go. But I really like the pieces and where we're headed."

The biggest upgrade to the team looks to have come in the form of centermen. The team drafted Jack Eichel with the second overall pick at this year's draft and traded for Ryan O'Reilly. Coupled with Sam Reinhart and Zemgus Girgensons, the team boasts solid depth down the middle.

"Since I've been in Buffalo the biggest weakness on our team has been at center, so now we have four or five really solid centermen, which is kind of the foundation you need to move forward, and they're all young," Ennis said. "It's really exciting. We still need some pieces, but I think we're definitely moving in the right direction fast."
