St. Louis Blues forward Patrik Berglund reinjured his shoulder in training and will be re-evaluated in four months.

Berglund will have surgery on his right shoulder Friday, the club announced.

"It's probably better now than after the season starts," general manager Doug Armstrong told Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We know we're going to get a good player back some time in the new year."

Berglund originally dislocated his shoulder in the penultimate game of the 2013-14 regular season against the Dallas Stars. He aggravated it last season during a game against the Nashville Predators in January.

Armstrong said Berglund injured it for a third time while training in Europe last month, and that the 27-year-old came to St. Louis earlier than he initially planned in order to be checked out by the team's medical staff.

"He injured it in Sweden and made us aware of it right away. We asked him to come over and see our doctors. He didn't re-injure it here. The reason he came back so early was because it was hurt and he wanted to see our doctors and trainers."

The ailment opens the door for veteran forward Scott Gomez, who reportedly accepted an invitation from the Blues to attend training camp on a tryout basis.

Berglund scored 12 goals and added 15 assists in 2014-15. He's played seven seasons with the Blues after the organization drafted him 25th overall in 2006.
