The Vancouver Canucks have promoted John Weisbrod, appointing him as assistant general manager Tuesday after just over a year with the club.

Upgraded from vice president of player personnel, Weisbrod will work directly beneath general manager Jim Benning. The two enjoyed success together previously, earning Stanley Cup rings for their contributions to the 2011 Boston Bruins.

Weisbrod, who began his executive career with the Dallas Stars, served as an assistant general manager of player personnel with the Calgary Flames after leaving the Bruins and before joining the Canucks.

Weisbrod's promotion comes a little over a month after long-time assistants Laurence Gilman and Lorne Henning had their contracts terminated.
