Report: Sobotka likely to remain in KHL instead of returning to Blues

Scott Rovak / US PRESSWIRE

It doesn't look like Vladimir Sobotka will be donning a St. Louis Blues jersey anytime soon.

The general manager of Avangard Omsk told the TASS Russian New Agency that Sobotka is likely to remain in the KHL, according to sports.ru's Igor Eronko.

The Blues have been trying to lure the 27-year-old back to the NHL since he left the team for the KHL following the 2013-14 season. Sobotka is signed with the Blues through the 2015-16 season, after which he'll become an unrestricted free agent.

Blues GM Doug Armstrong reportedly spoke to Sobotka's agent, Petr Svoboda, during the World Championship in Prague, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jeremy Rutherford.

Sobotka had 10 goals and 38 points in 53 games for Avangard and four goals in 10 games for the Czech Republic at the World Championship.
