On a day the Detroit Red Wings granted Mike Babcock permission to speak with other teams, another head coaching candidate is reportedly drawing interest from a pair of NHL clubs.

Peter DeBoer is believed to have talked to the San Jose Sharks and Edmonton Oilers about their respective vacancies, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.

The former New Jersey Devils and Florida Panthers head coach was fired by the Devils in December after the team started with a 12-17-7 record.

He guided New Jersey to a Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2012 and has a career NHL record of 217-200-77.

DeBoer coached the Devils for parts of four seasons after leading the Panthers for three campaigns.

He coached the OHL's Kitchener Rangers from 2001 to 2008, guiding the club to a Memorial Cup championship in 2003 and a trip to the final in 2008.
