Alex Ovechkin joined some of the game's greatest goal-scorers with his sixth career 50-goal season after scoring in the first period of Tuesday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Washington Capitals captain now has as many 50-goal campaigns as Marcel Dionne, Guy Lafleur and Mario Lemieux. Only Mike Bossy and Wayne Gretzky have more with nine apiece.

Unlike Dionne and Lemieux, Ovechkin accomplished the feat before turning 30, putting him in position to chase Bossy and Gretzky for the nine-season mark.

Ovechkin also tied Peter Bondra for the most goals in Capitals franchise history with 472. He leads the franchise in all-time points with 891 and is on pace to win his fifth career Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy as the league's scoring leader.
