The Tampa Bay Lightning clinched an Eastern Conference playoff spot with a 5-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.

The win moves the Lightning within one point of the Canadiens, who lead the Atlantic Division with 102 points.

The team also set a new franchise record for wins in a season after earning their 47th victory.

The Lightning, who have dominated the Canadiens all season after losing to them in the first round of last season's playoffs, also became the first team in 40 years to go 5-0-0 against Montreal.

Tampa Bay will travel to Toronto to do battle with the Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
