The New York Islanders have upgraded their support of Jaroslav Halak, reportedly acquiring Michal Neuvirth in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres, the team announced.

Buffalo is set to receive goalie Chad Johnson and a 2016 third-round pick in return for the Sabres' former de facto No. 1 goalie.

Neuvirth has helped the lowly Sabres to points in five of his eight starts since assuming the starter's role from Jhonas Enroth, who was dealt to the Dallas Stars last month.

Johnson has lost seven of his 10 starts, and leaves Long Island having authored a woeful 3.08 GAA and .889 save percentage.
