The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that defenseman Tim Gleason has been traded to the Washington Capitals for Jack Hillen and a fourth-round draft pick in 2015.

The 32-year-old Gleason, a former first-round pick, had seven points in 55 games before the trade.

Carolina gets younger in the deal, acquiring the 29-year-old Hillen, as well as the fourth-round selection in 2015 that originally belonged to the Arizona Coyotes

The Coyotes sent the pick to Washington as part of a 2014 trade for Martin Erat and John Mitchell.
