Bettman will 'think about' publicizing salary cap data

The shutdown of Capgeek has presented the NHL with the opportunity. 

But unlike the NHL's plan to enhance its website with enhanced statistical data, publicizing specific team salary information will take some mulling over, commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters Friday.  

My own view is, I think entirely too much attention is paid to the cap and the economics and how much players make and so maybe we don't want to do anything that buys into that approach. I'd rather see all the attention paid to the players' performances on the ice and what’s happening in the game. I'm not sure that I think it's a good idea, but now that I've been asked it a number of times in the last few days, I'll go back and at least think about it.

Unfortunately, Bettman doesn't recognize the hunger fans that and media alike possess for the boardroom competition that fuels his sport. The tight parameters executives are given to piece together rosters only stirs conversation, and helps the league become more visible in the market. 

Bettman admitted that the NHL already has its own internal website, which could presumably be flipped quite quickly into the public domain.
