Bruins recall Malcolm Subban from AHL

The Boston Bruins have shaken up their goaltending depth chart.

Malcolm Subban has been recalled from the AHL's Providence Bruins, while Niklas Svedberg has been sent down on a conditioning loan, as first reported by Chris Johnston of Sportsnet.

Subban, drafted 24th overall by the club at the 2012 NHL Draft, appeared in 22 AHL games this season, posting a record of 9-10-2 with a .921 save percentage and one shutout. Svedberg made 12 appearances for Boston, winning five games with a .922 save percentage, but hasn't started since Jan. 8.

The 21-year-old Subban, named the AHL's player of the week on Jan. 28, has yet to make a regular season start at the NHL level, but may soon get his first chance to show what he has with the big club.

Whether the promotion is intended to give Svedberg some regular playing time in the AHL or to showcase Subban as a potential trade chip is yet to be determined.

Update: It doesn't appear as though Subban will be around for too long.
