AHL to announce reported California realignment Thursday

The American Hockey League will make an announcement in conjunction with five NHL teams that will reportedly involve details of a mass relocation of affiliate clubs to California.

A press conference has been scheduled for Thursday at 3:30 p.m. ET in San Jose, the AHL said in a release.

Representatives of the Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles KingsSan Jose Sharks, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers are expected to attend.

A relocation vote was taken behind closed doors Sunday, and it was approved, Andy Tonge of Mayor's Manor reports.

The AHL realignment will include a new California division, according to Mark Spector of Sportsnet

The Kings will relocate their affiliate to Ontario, Calif., the Ducks will move theirs to San Diego, the Oilers' AHL team will play in Bakersfield, the Sharks' affiliate will also play in San Jose and the Flames' minor league club will be based in Stockton.

The changes will take effect next season.
