Devils' Jagr had mumps virus, expected to play Wednesday

The legend of Jaromir Jagr continues to grow, but the swelling in his face has come down.

The 42-year-old legend revealed Monday he recently overcame a bout with the mumps virus.

Jagr told Tom Gulitti of The Record he was the sixth member of the Devils to contract the illness, saying his face swelled up after he was forced to go without eating for five days due to the flu.

He and teammate Tuomo Ruutu both had the flu and did not travel with the team on their three-game road trip to California prior to the All-Star break.

Both have recovered and said they're ready to play Wednesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Neither veteran has played since a 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders on Jan. 9.
