Flyers' Timonen expected to receive clearance for return this season

Kimmo Timonen will have a chance to bid appropriate farewell.

The Philadelphia Flyers blue-liner, who had the twilight of his career derailed after blood clots were found in his lungs and right calf, is expected to receive medical clearance to play out the remainder of what will be his final season.

"I'm excited for him to be healthy and also excited for him to be coming back," head coach Craig Berube told reporters on Thursday. "He's been a real good player and want to play again. He's been a good player for this hockey team and this organization for a while."

The Flyers and their medical staff announced earlier this month that the blood clots found in Timonen's lungs had disappeared.

Update: General manager Ron Hextall informed reporters shortly after that "no definitive decision" has been made regarding Timonen's return, but the team will have gained clarity by the weekend.
