VIDEO: Capitals' Ovechkin blasts PP goal off sneaky feed from Backstrom

Eric Bolte / USA Today

When you're killing a penalty against the Washington Capitals, it's a good idea to cover Alex Ovechkin.

The New York Islanders have been burned twice by Ovechkin power-play goals in Wednesday's contest. Ovechkin's second goal - in his 700th game - was scored on a man advantage late in the second period after Nicklas Backstrom threaded him the puck from behind the net.

The Islanders have been the better team at even strength by a significant margin through two periods, but leaving Ovechkin alone while short-handed has not worked out well for them. New York eventually prevailed 3-2 in overtime thanks to a goal by John Tavares.
