Capitals' Ovechkin expected to play after leaving practice for precautionary reasons

Geoff Burke / USA TODAY Sports

The issue that forced Washington Capitals star forward out of practice Tuesday doesn't appear to be serious enough to keep him off the ice Wednesday on Long Island.

Ovechkin was reported to have tweaked an upper-body injury prior to making the trip to New York.

Ovechkin has nine goals and nine assists in 20 games. His Capitals sit three points back of a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
