Report: Oilers dangling Perron in attempt to trade for top center

Terry Nelson / USA TODAY Sports

Change appears to be afoot in Edmonton, and general manager Craig MacTavish is dangling a specific player as bait in an attempt to land a top center.

The 26-year-old right-hand shot is coming off a career season in Edmonton, having recorded 29 goals and 28 assists in 2013-14, but has managed only two goals and eight assists through 21 games this season.

Perron is averaging over two shots per game and his shooting percent of four is well down from his career average of 12.8. On top of that, he's posting positive possession numbers at even strength on the last place team, and is not afraid to mix things up physically.

With a contract that goes through next season and carries a cap hit just under $4 million, there's definite value to be excavated. Whether MacTavish is able to dig up what's he's after, however, remains to be seen.
