VIDEO: Hurricanes' Semin denied on desperation save by Avalanche's Pickard

Bruce Fedyck / USA Today

Alexander Semin can't buy a goal.

Semin has been a healthy scratch in three of Carolina's last five contests as he searches for his first goal of the season. He had a glorious opportunity in the second period of Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche, but Calvin Pickard somehow stopped the puck on the goal line despite losing sight of it during the play.

Semin entered Saturday with five assists in 14 games and has 499 career points.

Pickard, who relieved Reto Berra in the first period, stopped all 17 shots in his first career victory as Colorado rallied in the third period for a 4-3 win.
