Devils' Schneider celebrates consecutive start record with shutout win

Chris LaFrance / USA TODAY Sports

The New Jersey Devils are really riding Cory Schneider this season.

On Friday night the workhorse starter broke Martin Brodeur's franchise record by making his 20th consecutive start. Occasionally Schneider has seemed to buckle under the intense workload, but Friday night he was flawless.

Schneider stopped 29 Oilers shots in a shutout victory, his second clean sheet of the season, as the Devils defeated the moribund Oilers 2-0.

After starting the season with a handful of iffy performances, Schneider's even-strength save percentage is back to hovering around .930. That's about where Schneider should be based on his pedigree and track record. It's also where the Devils will need him to be if they hope to qualify for the postseason.
