Oddsmaker: Canadian NHL teams unlikely to end Stanley Cup drought this season

John E. Sokolowski / USA TODAY Sports

It's been nearly a generation since a Canadian team hoisted Lord Stanley's hallowed mug and, according to oddsmaker bodog.ca, that ignominious 21-year streak is unlikely to end this season.

Bodog.ca has priced out some odds on the likelihood of a Canadian team winning the Stanley Cup this season and those odds are long:

Will a Canadian Team win the 2015 Stanley Cup?

Yes                  5-1

No                   1-8

So the implied probability of a Canadian team winning the Stanley Cup is just a hair over 15 percent. As for the implied probability of a non-Canadian team emerging as champions, well that's closer to 90%.

Seems about right, really.

As for the Canadian team most likely to end Canada's streak, the oddsmakers think the Montreal Canadiens are the club with the most credible shot. The least likely team, according to the bodog.ca books? The Edmonton Oilers. By a lot:

Odds to win the 2015 Stanley Cup

Montreal Canadiens                 14-1

Vancouver Canucks                 20-1

Calgary Flames                        40-1

Winnipeg Jets                           50-1

Ottawa Senators                       50-1

Toronto Maple Leafs                 50-1

Edmonton Oilers                       200-1
