New York Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault said injured forward Derek Stepan could return to the lineup sooner rather than later.

"Sometime between Monday and next Monday," Vigneault told reporters Friday.

The head coach said Stepan could return this Monday against the St. Louis Blues if all goes well.

Stepan suffered a non-displaced fracture to his fibula during an on-ice conditioning drill in training camp on Sept. 24. He was given a four-to-six-week timetable.

The four-year veteran was set to resume practicing this week.
