Islanders' Chad Johnson gets starting nod Thursday vs. Avalanche

Brad Penner / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Islanders are turning to backup goaltender Chad Johnson on Thursday night.

Johnson will start in favor of starter Jaroslav Halak against the Colorado Avalanche, according to Arthur Staple of Newsday.

Halak allowed four goals on 30 shots in a loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.

Johnson has won all three of his starts this season, allowing 10 goals in those contests as well as a 20-minute stint in relief of Halak on Oct. 21 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Halak has struggled early on, posting a 3-3-0 record, a goals-against average of 3.51 and a .889 save percentage in six games.
