Sharks' Wingels on loss to lowly Sabres: 'We're a better team than that'

There's something rotten in NorCal, and that thing is the San Jose Sharks.

Coming off a 2-1 loss to probably the worst team in the NHL, the Buffalo Sabres, on Saturday, the Sharks have now lost four in a row. Usually the Sharks wait until they've attained a three games to nothing lead in the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs before going on a losing streak of this length.

"We're a better team than that," Sharks forward Tommy Wingels said post game. "We should be getting 15 shots on net every period."

Going into Saturday's matinee, the Sharks were the NHL's second worst team at preventing shot attempts against this season (behind only the Sabres). By even-strength shot attempt differential, they're among the bottom-10 teams in the league. It is an exceptionally uncharacteristic statistic for a club that sustained their regular season excellence with dominant even-strength play.

It's early yet and the Sharks have plenty of time to turn it around. At the moment though, it's looking like this club could be in serious trouble unless it can figure out what it is that's ailing the team.

Moving Brent Burns back to forward would be a good start.
