Bruins GM Chiarelli confirms Chara injury: 'I'd rather (he miss) 4-6 weeks than 4-6 months'

Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli met with the media Friday in Boston and confirmed that Zdeno Chara has sustained a serious knee injury and will miss roughly four-to-six weeks:

Chara will not require surgery.

That's tough news for the Bruins, particularly considering their odd decision to trade Johnny Boychuk ahead of the season.

"We're going to need to play a tighter defensive game, defense and forwards," Chiarelli said of how the team will need to adjust with Chara out of the lineup, according to Anthony Gulizia of the Boston Globe.

Still, the Bruins executive was trying his best to look on the bright side.

"I'd rather have 4-6 weeks than 4-6 months," Chiarelli said.
