Devils shuffle lineup; Gelinas, Ruutu to sit as Larsson makes season debut

Brace Hemmelgarn / USA TODAY Sports

The New Jersey Devils have shuffled their lineup for Tuesday's contest with the New York Rangers, with Eric Gelinas and Tuomo Ruutu sitting in favor of Martin Havlat and Adam Larsson, who makes his season debut.

Larsson sat out the first five games this season as a healthy scratch.

Head coach Pete DeBoer told reporters that the decision to sit Ruutu was based on a disappointing effort from their fourth line Saturday against the San Jose Sharks. Ruutu was reduced to less than seven minutes of ice time.

With trade chatter surrounding Larsson, it appears Gelinas - who has featured a minus-3 rating over the last two games - will sit in order to showcase the young defenseman.
