The Toronto Maple Leafs assigned forward Petri Kontiola to the AHL's Marlies on Monday, after general manager Dave Nonis was clearly underwhelmed with his performance at training camp.
The Maple Leafs signed the 29-year-old to a one-year, $1.1-million contract this past summer, coughing up an additional $590,000 to get him out of his KHL contract with Traktor Chelyabinsk.
