Sabres to select captain when camp ends; Gionta, Gorges, Moulson to wear 'A's

Jerome Miron / USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Sabres didn't carry a worthy candidate to captain the franchise after dealing Jason Pominville late in the 2012-13 season, but it appears they've brought in three men capable of receiving the honor.

Newcomers Josh Gorges, Brian Gionta and the returning Matt Moulson will be wearing letters Tuesday when the Sabres host the Carolina Hurricanes.

And it may prove to be an audition, of sorts.

Gorges and Gionta each held a leadership role for the Montreal Canadiens last season, with the latter wearing the "C," while Moulson briefly served as an assistant captain during his first stint with the Sabres.
