On Tuesday, Ottawa Senators defenseman Marc Methot and agent Larry Kelly maintained the two sides are only $300,000 apart in contract extension negotiations, and questioned whether the club was actually interested in coming to terms on a new deal.

In a TSN 1200 interview on Wednesday, Senators assistant GM Pierre Dorion said he was “flabbergasted” by the report, claiming that information "is totally false and there’s no other way to put it.”

“It's disappointing,” Dorion continued, as per the Ottawa Citizen. “I've been with the team for eight years and I don’t know if I've ever been more disappointed about anything that has been written."

Furthermore, Dorion insisted the club has always been interested in signing Methot to a long-term deal, and put the onus back on the player in terms of stalling the negotiating progress.

“We want to keep Marc around," he said, "but when you see things like this, you say ‘is it worth it?'”

With training camp set to begin Thursday, this storyline is sure to be a hot-button topic until it's resolved one way or another.
