Lecavalier on summer trade speculation: 'An accommodation would have been good'

Philadelphia Flyers forward Vincent Lecavalier arrived at training camp early and five pounds lighter, and is eager for a "clean slate" after a summer full of speculation that the club was looking to dump his $4.5-million salary cap hit.

Having said that, it appears as though Lecavalier would have welcomed a move, especially after seeing under nine minutes of ice time in a Game 7 loss in the first round of the playoffs at the hands of the New York Rangers.

“Look, I'm a proud guy,” Lecavalier told CSN Philly. “It was a tough summer. An accommodation would have been good for myself and another team, but nothing materialized out of it."

Lecavalier qualified that statement with this follow up: “I am happy here. I like the guys on this team. Obviously, the end of the year was tough on me. Game 7 was tough. I move on. You have to move on. And I believe in this team.”

Head coach Craig Berube added he feels Lecavalier is "going to have a good year," sparked by moving him back to center.

Lecavalier did manage 20 goals in limited ice time last season, and he and the team could benefit from a move back to his more natural position, where he admittedly feels "more comfortable."
