McKenzie: Ryan taking 'wait and see' approach after multiple contract proposals from Senators

TSN hockey insider Bob McKenzie took to Twitter Wednesday to clarify the status of Bobby Ryan's contract negotiations with the Ottawa Senators.

McKenzie reports the club did present multiple contract proposals to Ryan, ranging from two to four years in length; the forward did not officially reject any of the proposals, and his representatives indicated they would re-visit negotiations at a later date.

Furthermore, McKenzie reiterated Ryan's desire to wait and see how the season unfolds, and what his role on the team will be moving forward. Both factors will play a role in whether he decides to re-sign with the Senators.

Ryan himself admitted as such Wednesday, as per the Ottawa Citizen:

If you’re going to hitch your wagon to a team for seven years, it’s okay to take some time to decide if it’s what you want to do or not. Everything I’ve said and still feel is that I’d love to be here long term, but you need some assurance and you need some motivating factor, to not get it done at this early stage isn’t a tragedy. We’ve still got a year to get there and I think everybody is fairly confident that we will.

Nevertheless, questions and uncertainty are sure to hang over this situation until it's resolved one way or another.
