McKenzie: Wild's Kuemper seeking 1-year, $850K NHL contract; team offering 2-way deal

The Minnesota Wild and restricted free agent goaltender Darcy Kuemper remain unable to come to terms on a new contract, and details have emerged in regards to the current state of the negotiations.

Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher is aiming to get Kuemper signed to a two-way contract; the 24-year-old, however, is seeking a one-year, one-way deal worth $850,000, according to Bob McKenzie of TSN.

Kuemper, whose pro-rated NHL contract carried a cap hit of $776,667 last season, certainly demonstrated he's capable of hanging at the NHL level, posting a .915 save percentage in 26 appearances in 2013-14.

With both Josh Harding and Niklas Backstrom reportedly back at full health, the club is looking to have the flexibility of being able to hold Kuemper in the AHL until a call up is necessary.

All three goaltenders were said to be in line to challenge for the starting job in training camp, but unless a deal is reached prior to that time, Kuemper's camp attendance is up in the air.
