Flyers erase 2-goal deficit to even series with Rangers

Adam Hunger / USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Flyers rallied from two-goals down to capture a 4-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Sunday and sent the series back to the City of Brotherly Love all square.

Luke Schenn was the unlikely hero, as the stay-at-home defenseman's second-period goal proved to be the winner.

The Flyers had lost nine straight at Madison Square Garden and it looked like they were headed for a 10th defeat in a row, before the offense finally came to life.

Philadelphia overcame penalty trouble once again after giving the Rangers six power play opportunities for the second-straight game. New York capitalized to the tune of two goals before the nine-minute mark, but Ray Emery settled down to make 31 stops.

Flyers forward Jason Akeson, who took a pivotal high-sticking double minor in the third period of Game 1 that led to a pair of Ranger goals, bounced back with a strong effort and found the back of the net himself.

New York once again outshot Philadelphia by a significant margin, but couldn't convert like they did in Game 1. Any hope of a comeback was derailed in the final two minutes when the Rangers were called for a too many men penalty when attempting to pull Henrik Lundqvist and find an equalizer.

New York will now look to rebound and reclaim home-ice advantage when they visit Philadelphia on Tuesday.
