Alex Ovechkin will wear the C when Russia attempts to capture its fourth gold medal in seven years at the World Championships.

Ovechkin was an assistant captain for Russia at the Olympics in Sochi and seemingly became the team's unofficial media liaison as the tournament unfolded. He was often the only Russian player available to answer questions after games.

Apr 12, 10:45 AM

Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin will reportedly play in the World Championships for Russia in Minsk, Belarus in May.

President of Dynamo Moscow and billionaire Arkady Rotenberg told Rsport Friday, "I inform the supporters that soon my advisor at Dynamo, the best goalscorer in the NHL in recent years, Alexander Ovechkin, will strengthen the national team."

With a disappointing Olympic run behind him, Ovechkin has succeeded personally with the Capitals scoring a league-leading 51 goals although his team has failed to make the playoffs.
