The tears were already flowing down Ryan Smyth's face as the time ran out on the final game of his NHL career.
An emotional Smyth did a victory lap after the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 on Saturday, but not before receiving a hearty embrace form the linesmen and referees.
The entire roster of the Canucks followed by coming back out onto the ice to shake Smyth's hand and congratulate him on his long career.
Emotions at Rexall Place hit a fever pitch as Smyth circled the ice, waving to the crowd:
