VIDEO: MacKinnon jumped by Backes after manhandling the forward
The St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche got a little chippy towards the end of their game Saturday afternoon as David Backes took exception to a hit from Avalanche rookie Nathan MacKinnon.
With five minutes remaining in the third period, MacKinnon fought off Backes and knocked him to the ice. Backes retaliated by jumping MacKinnon who left the ice and went to the dressing room.
There's really only one way to describe what went on there:
Forgive me, that was an 18 year old MacKinnon that Backes got embarrassed by and thus felt the need to beat up.

Of course with the chaos that ensued after, Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy had his say after the game and didn't hold back.
Patrick Roy says David Backes jump of MacKinnon: "To me, it's gutless. It shows what kind of leader he is"

While the Avalanche came out with the 4-0 win, Backes didn't care about Roy's attack in his leadership simply telling media, "He's entitled to his opinion, that's OK."
Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock was less inclined to comment as freely as Roy telling reporters, "Patrick Roy always has something to say after the game."
